Description
Up for auction are two antique opera glasses made by the fine German firm of Emil Busch. The first contains barrels covered with mother of pearl panels; even the focusing tubes are also covered with pearl panels. This glass is marked on one eyecup "FABR Emil Busch A-G Rathenow" and on the other eyecup "Shelsicky - Strohle G.m.b.H. Frankfurt /M" The glass measures approximately 2.25" retracted and 3.0" extended. As expected, these glasses have outstanding German optics and produce a fine image. There is one small sliver of pearl missing from under the eyecup on one side - see last picture - not really noticeable but mentioned for accuracy. The second glass is Busch's unique Winett model which is quite compact. You fold out the two barrels and twist them to extend and focus. The barrels measure approximately 1.25" retracted and 2.25" extended with both draws extended. There is a small slip of paper inside one of the barrels that I have not attempted to remove; otherwise, the image obtained through proper twisting of the draws is quite good. This glass comes with what is presumably its original case (see last image). Buyer pays shipping and required insurance (.00 in continental USA - no international shipping due to pandemic). Payment is expected within three days of the end of the auction.
