Retroreflective Reflective Glass Beads/Spheres/Particles. 2 oz. (57 grams) total - shipped in 3 small bags with 0.66 oz (19 grams) each.
There are three types or size range beads (small, medium, and large) and the size range for each type is provided in the listing images and below:
Small glass beads: 0.149 mm - 0.210 mm, 70-100 mesh, mil spec size 8.
Medium glass beads: 0.40 mm - 0.60 mm, 30-40 mesh, mil spec size 4.
Large glass beads (aka "Airport Grade") 0.84- 1.68 mm, 12-20 mesh, mil spec size 1, <1% air inclusions for excellent clarity, refractive index >1.51.
Just mixing them into paint will modify the paint surface texture, but won't give you much (maybe not any) retroreflective effect (like the lettering on street signs - they appear very bright when light is shined on them). To get a strong retroreflective effect, apply your paint and while it is still wet add a layer of glass beads on top. After the paint dries and a surface layer of beads are bound into place, you can collect the excess glass that didn't stick and use them later. The larger beads give the brightest retroreflection, but the beads are clearly visible and light appears to come from distinct 'spots', and that may not be desirable for some projects. The smaller beads also give a retroreflective appearance, but the beads are too small to see individually and the retro-reflected light appears more uniform across the covered surface. The kit includes 3 size options so people can try out the range of options.
