    Description

Pre-1905 Tom Stewart "Hand Forged in Scotland" club head purchased by Herd & Yeoman. The club head was mounted on a hickory shaft in the USA by Herd & Yeoman, Chicago, between 1902 and 1908. This is truly an antique.
The forged design is a Diamond Back, a refinement still used today, focusing the weight of the club behind the ball. This only helped the better golfer, as "perimeter weighting", all the rage today, helps the average golfer get better distance on off-center hits.
In 1905 Tom Stewart patented his "Pipe" symbol. After that date, the pipe symbol always had a patent number beneath it, signifying that this club head was forged before that date.  Herd and Yeoman, two Scotsmen, worked together in Chicago from 1902 to 1909, limiting the time period that this club was assembled.
Purchased used in 1929 at Town and Country Club in St Paul, Minnesota from Garrett Sweeney, Assistant Pro under Jock Hendry of Scotland.
This club has a straight shaft and tight hosel and firm grip. This is possibly the original grip, which I "preserved" with adhesive tape at the bottom back in 1957. It has been stored carefully for many years.
The club is 41.5 inches standing on club toe; 40 inches from heel to top of the shaft.
