Description
Offered for your consideration is a pair ofRealistic
cat. no. 1016
3 inch full-range drivers
, manufactured c.1985. These are the same 1016 drivers used in the some later
Optimus
models and possibly other Radio Shack speakers from the 1980’s and early 90’s. Plus, they’re very ready for action for your next speaker-building project such as a center channel.
So, please see my large photos and read the remaining description to decide if these capable drivers are suitable for your needs.
These speakers are in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy paper cones are in perfect shape and so are the voice coil dustcaps. Plus, they have permanent inverted surrounds which are flawless as well. Also, the black-enameled steel baskets have no dings, scratches, or noted oxidation just some paint wear at the mount holes. And, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity have never been soldered on the spades. Overall, these drivers are very nicely preserved.
They’ve been fully tested and sound great—fast, detailed midrange, highs approaching the threshold of audibility, and good bass extension for the small platform size. And, I tested their DC resistance at a
perfectly
-matched 6.9 each, right in line with a nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the baskets measure 3 3/16” across (3⅞” at the corners), they stand about 1½” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced 2 9/16” adjacent / 3⅝” diagonal apart, c-t-c.
As pictured and described, this pair of
Realistic
3” full-range drivers is offered at a competitive price.
