Description
Offered for your consideration is a pair of5 inch woofers
, made c.2000. There is no manufacturer name on the drivers, nor were there any identifying decals on the speakers they were removed from. But, these woofers were constructed exceptionally well with textured poly cones and a shielded, heavy double-stacked magnet structure. They look identical to the 5” mid/bass drivers found in the JBL N-Series and other speakers from that period, so they may have been manufactured by the same overseas supplier?
Anyways, please see my large photos, the measurements, and read the remaining description to decide if these capable woofers are suitable for your needs.
These woofers are in clean, excellent condition. The sturdy cones are in perfect shape and so are the voice coil dustcaps. Also, the surrounds are
permanent
rubber instead of the wear-prone foam that was still still in use by many companies when they were made. Plus, the enameled steel baskets and anodized steel magnet covers are in great shape as well with no dings or scratches and minimal, if any, oxidation. And, the +/- terminals are marked for polarity and I de-soldered the spades for the new owner’s convenience. Overall, these woofers are very nicely preserved.
More importantly, they’ve been fully tested and sound terrific—very clear and detailed with good low-end output for the platform size. I also tested their DC resistance at a closely-matched 5.0-5.2Ω, respectively, consistent with a nominal 6 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flanges measure 5⅛” diameter, they stand about 3¼” tall, and the mounting holes are spaced 3⅛” adjacent / 4⅞” on the diagonal apart, c-t-c.
So, as pictured and described, this pair of 5” shielded magnet woofers is offered at a competitive price.
