Description

Next in the series of New Orleans FD challenge coins is this design for Engine 12, nicknamed named Tornado 12, based on the following true story:
About a year after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, and while most of the fire stations, as well as many returning residents, were being housed in FEMA trailers, about midnight a line of violent thunderstorms came thru, spawning 3 separate tornados, once of which passed directly over Engine 12's station house & ripping the FEMA trailer from it's ground stakes, and flipping over the trailer as the crew slept inside. Fortunately none of the crew were injured, but that same tornado travelled into the nearby Pontchartrain Park subdivision, flipping over more FEMA trailers, injuring many residents and unfortunately killing one person. Also, Engine 12 was unable to respond as the tornado had blew in the apparatus door of the station, making it impossible to get the rig out. On the rear side of the coin design are the 3 subdivisions that surround Engine 12's station. This coin has a brushed gold metal base size is 1.75"
Mailed First Class in padded bag.
