Description
Offered for your consideration is a vintageJensen
part # C5TFM (C9637)
5 inch midrange driver
removed from my Jensen Model 5 speakers manufactured in 1974. This midrange was also used in the same-series Model 6, 4, and possibly some other Jensen speakers from this era.
The EIA-format source/date code for this driver is stamped on the magnet cover resting underneath the black plastic isolation canister. The
second
photo directly below was from another pair of Model 5’s I parted-out over ten years ago. I don’t recommend opening the canisters on these mids since the wires inside the plastic cover are very short and, as such, difficult to reconnect to the driver’s +/- terminals. So, I’m only including it to show you the magnet structure and Jensen’s 220 EIA member source code.
Now, please take a look at my large photos, the measurements I took, and read the remaining description to decide if this capable mid driver is correct for your needs.

Please note
:
Although the listing is written largely in singular to avoid any confusion, eight (8) Jensen Model 5 C5TFM midranges are available at time of this writing. Four have seafoam green paper cones, while four have gray as pictured. If you have a preference as to cone color, please let me know in a message at time of purchase, otherwise I will ship the attractive green-coned drivers first. Also, please choose if you’d like to buy one or more in the quantity field at the top of the listing. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated by eBay checkout
.
This midrange driver is in clean, excellent condition. It has a perfect seamed paper cone and the voice coil dustcap is dimple-free flawless. Plus, the surround is made from
permanent
coated linen instead of the time-sensitive foam that would be long-decayed by now. Plus, the plastic isolation canisters over the drivers have the industry-standard .205” input terminals, marked for polarity (red dot side is +), and which have never been soldered on the spades. This is a nicely-preserved vintage driver.
More importantly, it’s been fully tested and sounds great—clear, strong, and detailed mid-frequency coverage as crossed-over in the Model 5. I also tested its DC resistance at 6.5-6.6Ω, right in line with the nominal 8 ohm driver rating. Lastly, the basket flange measures 5” in diameter, it stands about 3½” tall (including the canister), and the mount holes are spaced 3⅜” adjacent / 4 11/16” diagonal apart, center-to-center.
This is a great find if your suitable Jensen has a 5” mid that’s damaged or blown—your cherished vintage speakers will be sounding their best again in no time. And, it’s a smart spare to have around just in case since unharmed examples are becoming less plentiful every year that passes.
So, as pictured and described, this Jensen 5” midrange driver is offered at a competitive price.
