This is an Ethel Hicks Angel Children Rapunzel #512, NIB. She is 1-3/8" high. Rapunzel was the fairy tale girl that was held captive in a tower. The best known line of this fairy tale is"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair".
These are one of a kind in that they are artist made and not reproduced in mass. She is in her original clear plastic case.
Ethel Hicks is a talented doll artist working from Gaylord, MI. Her web site
A
bout Dolls and the Dollmaker
says:
I make miniature toy dolls for the children that live in the 1"=1 doll houses. These little
ones vary in size from 3/4" to 3" tall. They are also delightful collector dolls in their own
right.
I make my own sculptures of head, hands and feet. Then I make molds from these. I pour
the mold in porcelain slip. The resulting "green ware" must be scrapped and sanded.
It must than be fired in the kiln reaching a temperature of 2300 degrees. Alas, when they
are removed from the kiln they have a rough texture and must be sanded again.
I china paint their faces, and than fire them again to reach a temperature of1600 degrees.
This requires 1 to 3 firings to get their faces smiling brightly. When coooled and removed
from the kiln, their faces are permanent.
After I paint their shoes with acrylic paint, they are ready to be assembled and dressed. Of
course the little dears want wigs, I think they would look really cute bald, but they won't
hear of it.
When the doll is finished, She is packaged in a protective plastic box. Than she is ready
to be shipped to you.
"How long does it take to make each little doll?" It takes a long time, years of experience
and hours of effort to create one Angel Child. I strive to make each one truly special. They
are lovingly hand made by myself to be tiny treasures, you will be proud to own.
I hope you will enjoy having them, as much as I enjoy creating them.
