Description
For sale is an early bulger spoon with a Texa shaft made by David Anderson. David Anderson was the son of Jamie Anderson, the Open Championin 1877, 1878 and 1879 and the grandson of Old Da Anderson a contemporary of Tom Morris. In the 1890's and early 1900's the Scottish club makers were experimenting with different shaft materials. Texa was one of those woods. This club is in all original condition. The head, shaft, grip and whipping appear to be original. The head has D. Anderson stamped on it. The shaft has Texa stamped in it. The whipping over the splice also appears to be original. The grip whipping is probably newer. A fine example of a club made by one of St. Andrews leading golfing families. The club is 40" long and has swing weight of C-0. The club has approximately 19 degrees of loft.
The club head and shaft have been cleaned and oiled with tung oil to prevent the wood from drying out. The grip was left as it was found. This club has play potential if the club head was removed from the shaft, epoxied and a new grip was installed.
