This item is a 38 1/2"
right-handed
hickory shafted iron. It is an early smooth face
club with rounded back in the style of an early mashie. Longer thicker hosel, with 39* loft and a D 3 swingweight. Made by Willie Park of Musselburgh.
Th
e head is clean. It does have the expected play nicks and dings and an even dark patina.
Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old apparently original Wm Park marked
hickory. It has a
bend
, I see no cracks and it has some play at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old, possibly original, long leather wrap that is in fair vintage condition.
Great for authentic play after you do the work on it.
If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this hickory shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.

box. This item shipped UPS Ground. For those of you that never ship but only receive items, the further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be. That is the way the carriers charge. On top of that, eBay and takes almost 15% of what I receive for shipping (out of I receive .50) and I would like to break even. eBay collects sales tax for many states. They charge me 15% for that service and I never see that money.
