    Description

    This item is a 38 3/4"
    right-handed
hickory shafted iron. It is a dashed face
club with 28* loft and a C 5 swingweight. Clearly marked Harry Vardon's Own Mongrel on the back. How many of these have you ever seen? Made by William Gibson of Kinghorn Scotland (star cleek mark).
    Th
e head is clean and not all rusted. It does have the expected play nicks and dings.
Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old apparently original
hickory. It is straight, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play (I believe this one already has been). The grip is a newer long leather wrap that is in good playable
condition. If you collect unusual names of
    clubs,
then this Vardon's Own Mongrel is a must for your collection.
If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this hickory shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.
Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3
    -pound
box. This item shipped UPS Ground. For those of you that never ship but only receive items, the further you are from me in NC the more shipping will be. That is the way the carriers charge. On top of that, eBay and takes almost 15% of what I receive for shipping (out of I receive .50) and I would like to break even. eBay collects sales tax for many states. They charge me 15% for that service and I never see that money.
