Description
This item is a 39" right handed antique vintage hickory shafted iron. Marked Fred McLeod on the back. Interesting shape to the head. It has a center weighted bar on the back with beveling on either end. Often described as a Sammy or Push Iron. McLeod won the 1908 US Open championship and was the honorary starter at the Masters Tournament from 1963-76. He was also the pro at Columbia Country Club in Chevy Chase, MD. A lot of golf history associated with this name.
The head is clean and in good vintage condition.
Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old hickory. It has a very minor bend, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old long leather wrap that is in poor condition with tape at the top
. 22* loft and a B 7 swingweight for play.
If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this hickory shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.
Shipping in the US is calculated for this item and based on a 2 pound box. The closer you are to me in NC (27712 zip) the less shipping will be. That is the way shipping works as it costs me more to ship a greater distance with all the carriers. I do ship pretty much worldwide but shipping is a lot more to foreign locations and is also calculated.
