Antique Vintage Hickory Shaft Condie Scotland Smooth Taylor's Pattern Mashie

This item is a 37 1/2" right handed antique vintage hickory shafted iron. It is an early smooth face Taylor's Pattern mashie. The development of the mashie is attributed to J H Taylor. Made by Robert Condie of St Andrews Scotland. Has his rose cleek mark. Retailed by Slazenger New York.
The head is clean and not all rusted. It does have some uniform micro pitting.
Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old hickory. It has a very minor bend, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old built up long leather wrap that is in good
vintage
condition. 41* loft and a C 6 swingweight for play.
If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this hickory shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.
