Antique Hickory Shaft Tom Stewart St Andrews Mid Iron

This item is a 38 1/4"
right-handed
hickory shafted early lined face iron. It is a Mid Iron. 28* loft and a C 8 swingweight. Made by Tom Stewart of St Andrews Scotland. Has the famous Stewart Pipe cleek mark. The head is in good clean vintage condition. Shows the expected nicks and play dings. Has a small amount of lead tape added to get the weight just right.
Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is the old apparently original hickory. It is straight, I see no cracks, and it is tight at the hosel (always re-set shafts prior to play-looks like this one
already
was re-set). Th
e grip is a newer long leather wrap that is ready to play.
If you are considering playing with this club all wooden shafted irons should be re-set prior to play. While I see no issues with the shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These wooden shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee wooden shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old wooden shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old wooden shafted wood with a hard range ball.
Shipping in the US is calculated for this item and based on a 3-pound box via UPS Ground. The closer you are to me in NC (27712 zip) the less shipping will be. That is the way shipping works as it costs me more to ship a greater distance with all the carriers. eBay charges Sales Tax for many states. They even take their 15% cut from me on the tax (like they do on shipping as well) even though I never see that money.
