3 Club Antique Hickory Shaft Hutchison North Berwick Set Gutty Golf Rut Iron

This listing is for a set of 3 antique vintage right handed wood shafted clubs. All are early smooth face irons marked for J H Hutchison of North Berwick Scotland. Hutchison was one of the premier early club makers beginning around 1880. The J H Hutchison North Berwick on the back of these clubs is somewhat faint. That is not unusual with Hutchison clubs as they were not deeply stamped to begin with and caddy cleanings made them even fainter. Included are a concentric back mashie style iron 37 1/2" length 41* loft and a D 0 swingweight, a nice old large headed long thick hoseled lofter 38 3/4" 38* F 7 and a 2 1/2" x 1 7/8" small headed long thick hoseled niblick (often called a rut niblick) 35 1/2" 47* E 6. The heads are in good clean condition. Yes they do have the expected play nicks and dings. Please look at the many zoom pictures for a better idea of condition. The shafts are old hickories. One is marked for Hutchison and the other two are most likely replacements. You will find a minor bend in one of the shafts but the other two are straight. I see no cracks in the shafts and they do have some play at the hosels. The lofter and niblick are made in the old style. Circa 1890 +/-.  This is a very nice collectible/display set that you could also play with if you did the necessary work. You would be the envy of your gutty ball friends.
If you are considering playing with these clubs, while I see no issues with this hickory shafts (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These old hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.

Shipping  to foreign countries will be much higher and is also calculated. Because of the high value there is a handling fee. eBay also collects sales tax.
