Description
This is a group of two advertisements for Old Crow Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey featuring Mark Twain. The advertisement which also features Bret Harte is 13-1/4 by 10-1/4 inches while the advertisement which also features Rudyard Kipling is 11 by 7-3/4 inches. The images are both accurate and also misleading. The illustration of Mark Twain and Bret Harte shows the two authors sitting in Mark Twain's dining room at his home in Hartford, Connecticut. Harte is standing in front of the fireplace which famously has a window directly over the fire, which was an amusing feature requested by Mark Twain of the architect, who was the son of Mark Twain's friend William Dean Howells. Harte, however, was far past his prime by the date of this visit, and certainly had not just completed one of his best stories. In addition, Harte and Mark Twain's relationship was strained by this point. The paper is lightly toned; otherwise the advertisements are in good condition.
